Sara joined Medical Lake Middle School in 2022 after her husband was stationed at Fairchild AFB. Sara teaches math to 6th and 7th grade students and this was an adjustment for her after spending her entire career as an elementary teacher.
She quickly adjusted and settled into her new role. She is excelling in many areas as a teacher and she demonstrates the traits and skills that any parent would want in their child's teacher. She is extremely patient and kind and she is always willing to adjust her teaching to meet the needs of our students
She is a strong communicator with families and they rave about her ability to keep them informed on their child's progress in her class. She is a leader among her peers providing valuable coaching to inexperienced teachers, she is easy to collaborate with, she is eager to help other staff learn something new, and she is a problem solver at staff meetings. Where she goes above and beyond is in her willingness to support students outside of school. She is committed to attending our school's sporting events, choir and band performances, drama performances, and many other activities that our students are involved in outside of school. Finally, she serves on various committees and is always willing to step up when help is needed.
Two recent examples of this include her volunteering to be our school's 504 coordinator and lead our school through our main fundraising event of the year. We are very sad we only get to reap the many benefits of Sara for one more year before her husband gets stationed elsewhere, but our school will be in a better place because of her efforts. It is an honor to recommend Sara Lamb as Educator of the year.

Airway Heights Business of the Year
Billie's Diner
Billie's is an establishment that has nestled itself in the heart of the community with its comforting ambiance and farm-fresh fare. McKenzie DonTigny, the owner of Billie's Diner, envisioned a place where the authenticity of local produce is celebrated, and she has impeccably brought this vision to fruition.
By adhering to a farmer-first ethos, McKenzie has not just created a diner, but a vibrant platform that uplifts the local agricultural community.
This exceptional approach has cultivated a menu that tells a story of the season, with each dish serving as a testament to the rich agricultural heritage stretching from Spangle to the Palouse. The diner’s commitment to local sourcing is not merely a statement but a celebration of nature's bounty, with around 70% of its ingredients hailing from the fertile soils of the Inland Northwest.
As you step into Billie’s Diner, you're embraced by a homely atmosphere where the decor reflects a blend of classic diner aesthetics with a rustic farm touch, a subtle yet profound nod to the symbiotic relationship between the diner and the local farms.
Behind every meal, there’s a narrative of a dedicated farmer, a diligent harvest, and a community coming together over a nourishing meal. Through its doors, Billie’s has created a conduit between the farmer and the fork, fostering an environment where patrons not only satiate their hunger but also develop an appreciation for the hands that toil the soil.
McKenzie and her team at Billie's Diner have ignited a movement towards a more conscious dining experience, one that honors the hard work of local farmers while serving up hearty meals that warm the soul.
The meaningful relationships forged with local farmers such as those at Vets on the Farm, Spokane Hutterian Brethren, and Browning Beef are emblematic of a business model rooted in communal growth and sustainable practices. As we honor Billie’s Diner, we also celebrate a business that has sown seeds of community, education, and farm-fresh goodness in Airway Heights.

Nonprofit of the Year
Redemption Church
A 90-year journey of faith, community and service
In the heart of West Plains, Redemption Church stands as a symbol of faith, resilience, and community service.
Established nearly a century ago, this church has been on a remarkable journey, leaving a lasting impact on the community it calls home.
This year the West Plains Chamber of Commerce has named them as the Non-Profit of the Year, recognizing their dutiful contributions.
Pastor Nick Hawkins explains that Redemption Church had its humble beginnings when two dedicated women embarked on a mission.
“The church was started 90 years ago by two ladies who wanted to bring God’s love to the community by starting a Bible study,” said Pastor Hawkins. “Over the years, this seed of faith blossomed into something much greater, evolving to encompass a broad mission of hope and community support.”
The non-profit’s mission extends far beyond its sanctuary walls. In recent times, they've been instrumental in providing relief during crises.
In the aftermath of wildfires, the church played a vital role in offering tangible support to those affected.
Food, clothing, water, and personal hygiene items were distributed to the survivors of the Gray Fire, serving as a beacon of hope during their darkest hours.
The church has worked closely with local schools, and continues collaborating with the Medical Lake Mayor, Terri Cooper, to ensure that they provide vital relief aid to the community.
Their focus extends beyond basic aid, with a keen interest in education, character development, and supporting the next generation.
For those looking to support Redemption Church's mission, there are various ways to get involved.
A cornerstone of Redemption Church's success has always been the unwavering commitment to community collaboration, and their team has worked and prayed through hardships as well.
In the midst of an economic downturn, Redemption Church had to make some sacrifices as well.
"We’ve come through some very interesting times,” said Hawkins. “We used to have a daycare here, and there was an economic downturn, so we had to fund it for 5 years and eventually had to close it. It was very hard, that was 11 years ago."
Despite these challenges, the church persevered and even managed to pay off a mortgage.
Redemption Church's journey over the past 90 years serves as a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and community service.
As they continue to evolve and adapt, they work to remain a steadfast pillar of hope and support in the West Plains community, ready to serve, inspire, and create a brighter future for all.
